Painting with a combination of Beeswax & Damar Resin creates ENCAUSTIC wax. The fluidity that happens when you heat this medium, to it's molten level, is exciting and inviting. Each stroke slides across the canvas deminishing the imagery underneath, yet leaves a translucent footprint of what was. Working with hot wax created very demential pieces because it cools quickly. The edges of these works are often irregular and is part of the charm of Encaustic Hot Wax paintings. Sometimes I leave it that way and other times I heat the edges and flatten each side.
Woven Hearts is a series created and inspired by an Open Call from Yountville. These pieces are natural beeswax with carved out lines enhanced with oil paint in the grooves. Layers of clear wax cover areas I have imprinted with rubber stamped words in ink. Final finishing touches are in Gold wax droplets and Gold lines.
